Showing up on workation is not enough; we like to build up the hype!
Now, this is the part where you can get creative. For instance, we like to have virtual games that can help us get to know each other, and we look forward to eventually meeting them! (Or you can just play “Guess Who” when everyone arrives, that’s fun too)
We like to follow the traditional route, gift exchange, and treasure hunt for on-site activities, or get our hands dirty with an art session like fluid art or tye dye. Based on the location you decide, you will find many options like pottery, yoga, and cooking classes. If this feels like too much work, you can always outsource this too.
Just book a team-building activity and see how your team goes from colleagues to buddies!
Here are some fun ideas from our expert games masters if you would like for your team to try:
- It’s the white elephant gift exchange, but everyone brings something from their culture. That doubles up as the memory when you all pack up and return with a piece of heritage from another side of the world.
- Guess who, but you only get a toddler picture of your colleague this time. There’s no better way of getting to know someone than seeing cute pictures of people on the screens!
- Dance-Offs – We especially love dance-offs! Pick a theme, create teams, and the silliest, most creative dance routine wins. (For the stage-shy folks, we record this from the comfort of our houses, so don’t worry!)
We put our best into the pre-workation games because these games double the excitement of seeing everyone when the day comes to meet in person.
It also gives something extra to bond over (hey, that dance was something else, are you a professional?!) rather than the day-to-day work talk.
Now that your team is already gearing up and looking forward to the workation, the real work needs to begin. The location, the tickets, and everything logistics are yet to be decided.
We shall cover all that in the next part of this series so that you do not find yourself in a pickle, as we did on numerous occasions.
