About Canavida

Canavida — a name combining Canada and Pura Vida — is a resort on a mountaintop overlooking the Pacific Ocean, featuring 10 fully equipped private villas with private pools and 6 condos. Guests come for everything from family barbecues to bird watching, ATV tours, ziplining, and catamaran trips.

Canavida is located near three of Costa Rica's most visited national parks, more than 10 beautiful beaches, and several breathtaking waterfalls, including some of the country’s most visited natural attractions.

It also offers over 18 tours and experiences designed to inspire discovery, reconnection, inner balance, and immersion in nature.

Challenges Before PriceLabs

Building a hotel resort in the middle of the Costa Rican jungle came with a unique set of challenges — and pricing was one of them. As newcomers to hospitality, Jessica and her brother had to figure out the market from the ground up:

Pricing by gut feel: Without market data, early pricing decisions were a balancing act. Jessica had to find a sweet spot for a property with no obvious comp set — not on the beach, but with a pool, a view, and a jungle-meets-ocean experience that defied easy comparison.

Multiple seasons, multiple guest types: Costa Rica has a high season, a low season, and a rainy season — each with different demand patterns. On top of that, Canavida sees waves of international travelers during spring break alongside domestic Costa Rican tourists during local holidays. Pricing each of these correctly and manually across 16 units was unsustainable.

Diverse inventory: Private villas with private pools differ markedly from condos with shared amenities. Add-ons like sofa beds, pet fees, and varying minimum-stay needs across weekdays and weekends meant pricing was never a one-size-fits-all problem.
